If you've wandered here ... you've wandered while things are under construction.

I've added basic class information, items, some gear, professions.. and I still have a million things to go!

The following is a list of playable races on Final Fantasy Star. To avoid confusion these are the only races we allow for customs.

Elvaan

+5 Magic Power and +5 Vitality
Available Classes: Mages, Archers, Bards, Druids, Scholars, Geomancer, Summoner, Ninjas.
Unable to be: Dark Knights, or Paladins.

Elvaan is a race available for play in Final Fantasy XI. They inhabit the Kingdom of San d'Oria, and Elvaan players starting their game there are rewarded with a San d'Orian Ring. They are strong and have a high "mind" stat, making them effective for "attacker" classes (such as Monk) and potent White Mages. They are supposed to be the most religious of the enlightened races, and also the most imperialistic.

Hume

+5 Vitality, and +5 Attack Power
Available Classes: All but Druid.

Humans, also known dialectally as Humes (ヒュム Hyumu), are a recurring race that appears throughout the Final Fantasy series.

Based almost entirely off of the real-world species, Humans are usually the most numerous and politically dominant sentient species in any given Final Fantasy world, particularly in the main series.
As the most common sentient species, they are often considered to be a standard or average to which the biology, psychology, and culture of other species and races are compared.

A rather potent race, Humans have been witnessed occupying, or at least being capable of participating in, most Jobs in the Final Fantasy worlds.

The Tarutaru

+5 Dodge, +5 Magic Power.
Available Classes: All but heavy Melee fighters, or Archers. These are magical beings.
Unable to be: Warriors, Archers, Paladins, Dragoons, Dark Knights. Etc.
The Tarutaru (タルタル, Tarutaru) are a race of very short beings with brownish button noses and chipmunk-like attributes from the Federation of Windurst in Final Fantasy XI. Although they resemble children in size, this does not reflect their age. In fact, the Tarutaru do not seem to change their appearance at all as they age, and while short in stature, the Tarutaru are extremely proficient in magical ability, which they hone through careful and determined study of the natural world. The Tarutaru are said to understand the importance of the balance between natural harmony and magic. Because of this understanding, they have produced some of the greatest mages in the world's history. It was their way of life that fueled the rapid reconstruction of Windurst following its destruction during the Crystal War.

The Tarutaru enjoy a friendly relationship with the Mithra, who live in Windurst as well after they were admitted to the nation by the Star Sybil, the ruler of Windurst and moral leader of all Vana'diel. Tarutaru lack the physical strength and durability of their fellow enlightened races as a result of their racial prejudice towards magical study, but do control greater reserves of magical power (MP) as a result, and are the most studious and intelligent of the races of Vana'diel - although not the most wise or spiritual. In the storyline of the game they are often presented as heedless of caution - a trait which many players in Final Fantasy XI note as also applying to Tarutaru player characters. Archetypally, Tarutaru excel at the study of Black Magic and White Magic and they excel most well in the ancient art of summoning, although the combination of their vast magical power, precise spellcraft, lack of caution and physical vulnerability has resulted in the death of many such Tarutaru Black Mages.

Mithra

+5 Dodge, +5 Speed
Available Classes: Thief, Ninja, Archer, Druid, or Dragoon.
Unable to be: All other classes.

Mithra is a race available for play in Final Fantasy XI. They are agile, cat-like humanoids. They are not particularly strong, brilliant, or charismatic, but they have outstanding Dexterity and Agility which help them hit more often and get hit less often. They are ideal for classes like Ranger, Ninja, and particularly Thief. Unfortunately, their skills get them labeled as a race of thieves and cheats, which is also reflected in character preference since nearly one in three Mithra players choose to level up Thief above all other Jobs. Mithra have otherwise fairly average statistics and can play almost any of the Jobs without great difficulty, with possible exception given to Beastmaster and Bard due to their low Charisma scores.

Galka
Playable Races 200px-FFXI-Galka_concept
+10 Vitality, +5 Defense, -10 Magic Power.
Available Classes: Warrior, Thief, Samurai, Ninja, Dark Knight, Dragoon, and regular Knight.
Unable to be: All other classes.
Galka is a race available for play in Final Fantasy XI. They are large humanoids with a vaguely ursine appearance. They appear most commonly in Bastok. They are strong and have high HP, making them best suited for melee classes, such as monk or warrior. Despite their average magic attack ratings, Galkas have low MP pools and may struggle compared to other races. There are, however, various types of armor to compensate for this. They reproduce through a form of reincarnation, but usually have no recollection of their past life. Many English speaking fans believe they are Asexual due to a mistranslation in the manual. Interviews with the game's creator have confirmed they are male.
